Service Tax Registration Procedure Online Step by Step
Step 1: The service tax registration procedure starts with an online form named as ST-1 which can be found at this address.
Step 2: As a service tax payer, one has to click on the link above and fill up the basic details. Once the form has been filled up, click on the submit button. A reference mail will reach your given email address and will contain the password. Sometime there is delay to get email, It may take up to 24 hours. So check your email in regular interval if you are getting delay to get email. Don’t forget to check spam box or junk email folders.
If you are not getting email with in 24 hours then go for fresh registration with new email address or contact helpdesk (aces.servicedesk.icegate.gov.in).
The password is required to login to change custom password. The account will be of permanent nature and all further service tax payments should be made using the same account.
Step 3: It is recommended to the tax payers that they should replace the given password with some other password which they can remembers easily and keep confidential. The same can be done by ‘Change Password’ option.
Step 4: Once the username and password for Service Tax account has been created, a user has to log in with the same details and then navigate to the option of ‘Fill ST-1’ under the tab REG.
Step 5: On clicking the option, a new page will come up which will ask the user to fill up the basic details. Here, if the tax payer is offering service in 2 or more premises, then he can register the same information online by selecting the option ‘Service Offered’. As soon as the information is submitted to the website an acknowledgement slip will be generated. A print-out of the same is required to be submitted along with a print out of ST-1 to the ‘Commissionerate’ with whom the registration has been made.
As per the Service Tax Rules, the Superintendent will verify the submitted form and will either grant or refuse service tax registration to the assesse. The same will be done within 2 working days and is an assesse doesn’t receives any intimation from the Superintendent, then it is assumed that the application has been accepted. A 15 digit service tax number will also be allotted which should be used for all future references.

Documents Required for Service Tax Registration
The process of online service tax registration will remain incomplete if the assess fails to furnish hard copies of the documents within 7 days of submitting ST- 1. For the purpose of Verification, the following should be required:
- PAN Card copy the legal entity with whom the assesse has been registered
- Recent photograph of the assesse along with ID proofs such as PAN Card of the assesse, Voter ID Card, Driving License, Adhar Card or any other ID proof which has been recognized by the State or Central Government.
- Main bank account details
- List of Directors/ Articles of Association/ Memorandum of Association of the employer company.
- Consent of the Board of Directors or the Partners or the Proprietor
- VAT, BIN No., IEC, etc., of the employer company
- Proof of ownership of the legal owner.
