5 Secure Ways to Lock Reset Password Options on e-Filing Account

In case you forgets your password of the income tax e-Filing account, then you will be required to use the option selected using this process to reset password.

So, it is the best possible way to revive our account. But sometime it is beneficial for hackers to hack our e-filing account.

Please keep in mind here we are not discussing about “how to reset password“. We are talking about only how to protect reset password option or lock to reset password option.

Here we are giving 5 ways to secure your “Reset Password Option” to avoid any hacking.

The existing options of e-Filing OTP and Secret question will be disabled. This will provide additional security to the e-Filing account. The available options are:

1) Reset password using Net Banking

This is the default option available. Password can be reset anytime by the user using Net banking option. Follow the steps described below:

Step 1: In the login page click on “Forgot Password?” link.

Step 2: User will be redirected to the Reset Password page. Enter the User ID and Captcha Code and Click on Continue.

Step 6: User will be redirected to the e-Filing dashboard.

 2Reset Password using DSC

In case the user chooses to reset password using DSC, all other options to reset the password will be disabled and the user can reset password only using DSC. This will ensure additional security to user’s e-Filing account.

Step 1: User has to select the option “Using DSC”. After selecting the checkbox below confirmation message appears. Click on “OK” button and click on “Proceed” button.

Step 2: User will be redirected to the confirmation page.

Step 3: Click on “Confirm” button. Following success message will be displayed on the screen.

Step 4: Next time when the user wishes to reset password, has to click on “Forgot Password?” link in the login page.

Step 5: User will be redirected to a Reset Password page. Enter the User ID & Captcha Code and click on “Continue” button.

Step 6: User can now only reset the password using DSC.

Step 7: Select the option “Using DSC” and click on Continue. A page will appear where the user has to select the type of DSC and upload the signature file generated using DSC management utility.

Step 8: Click on Validate button. A page will be appear after validation where the user can reset the password.

Step 9: Enter the new password and re-enter the password. Click on “Submit” button. Following success message will appear on the screen.

Secured Reset password can be deactivated anytime by the user.

  • Navigate to the Profile Settings and click on e-Filing Vault- Higher Security and unselect the option “Upload DSC” and click on Proceed button.
  • User will be redirected a confirmation page.
  • Click on Disable button. Following success message will appear on the screen

3) Reset password using Aadhaar OTP

In case the user chooses Reset password using Aadhaar OTP, user will be required to reset the password using Aadhaar OTP generated. If the Aadhaar is linked to PAN, a request is made to Aadhaar Web Service, OTP is generated and sent to registered mobile number and email ID registered with UIDAI. This ensures additional security to the e-Filing account.

Step 1: Users have to select the option “Using Aadhaar OTP”. After selecting the checkbox following confirmation appears. Click on “Generate Aadhaar OTP” button.

Step 2: Aadhaar OTP will be generated and will be sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.

Step 3: Enter the Aadhaar OTP and click on “Validate” or the same OTP can be used by selecting “I already have Aadhaar OTP”.

Step 4: Following success message will be displayed on the screen. Click on “OK” and click “Proceed” button.

Step 5: User will be redirected to a confirmation page.

Step 6: Click on “Confirm” button. Following success message will be displayed on the screen.

Step 7: Next time when the user wishes to reset password, user has to click on “Forgot Password?” link in the login page.

Step 8: User will be redirected to a Reset Password page. Enter the User ID and Captcha Code and Click on Continue button.

Step 9: User can reset password only using Aadhaar OTP. Select the option “Using Aadhaar OTP” and click on Continue.

Step 10: Verify the User ID and Aadhaar Number and click “Generate Aadhaar OTP” button as shown following

Step 11: Aadhaar OTP will be successfully generated and will be sent to registered mobile number registered with Aadhaar. Enter the OTP received and click on “Validate” button.

Step 12: Aadhaar OTP will be validated and the user will be redirected to a page where the user can reset the password or the same OTP can be used by selecting “I already have Aadhaar OTP” option.

Step 13: Enter the new password and re-enter the password and click on “Submit” button. Following success message will be displayed on the screen.

The Secured Reset Password can be deactivated anytime by the user.

  • Navigate to the Profile Settings and click on e-Filing – Higher Security and unselect the option “Using Aadhaar OTP” and click on Proceed button.
  • User will be redirected a confirmation page.
  • Click on Disable button. Following success message will be displayed on the screen.

4)  Reset password using Demat Account EVC

In case the user chooses to reset the password using Demat Account EVC, all the other options to reset password will be disabled and the user can reset password only using Demat Account EVC. This ensures additional security to your e-Filing account.

Step 1: User has to select the option “Using Demat Account EVC”. After selecting the checkbox, a confirmation appears. Click on “OK” and click on “Proceed” button.

Step 2: User will be redirected to a confirmation page.

Step 3: Click on “Confirm” button. Following success message will be displayed on the screen.

Step 4: Next time when the user wishes to reset the password, user has to click on “Forgot Password?” link in the login page.

Step 5: User will be redirected to a Reset Password page. Enter the User ID and Captcha Code and click Continue.

Step 6: User will be able to reset password only using Demat Account EVC.

Step 7: Please select the option available on the screen.

Step 8: Click on “Validate” button. User will be redirected to a page where he can change the password.

Step 9: Enter the new password and re-enter the password and click on “Submit” button. Following success message will be displayed.

  • Navigate to Profile Settings and then click on e-Filing Vault- Higher Security and unselect the option “Using Demat Account EVC” and click on “Proceed” button.
  • User will be redirected to a confirmation page.
  • Click on Disable button. Following success message will be displayed.

5) Reset Password Using Bank Account EVC

In case the user chooses to reset the password using Bank Account EVC, all other options to reset the password will be disabled and the user will be able to reset password using Bank Account EVC only. This ensures additional security to your e-Filing account.

Step 1: User has to select the option “Using Bank Account EVC”. After selecting the checkbox, a confirmation appears. Click on “OK” button and click on “Proceed” button.

Step 2: User will be redirected to a confirmation page.

Step 3: Click on “Confirm” button. Following success message will appear on the screen.

Step 4: Next time when the user wishes to reset password, click on “Forgot Password?” link in the login page.

Step 5: User will be redirected to a Reset Password page. Enter the User ID and Captcha Code and click on Continue.

Step 6: User can reset his password inly using Bank Account EVC.

Step 7: Please select the option.

Step 8: Click on “Validate” button. User is redirected to a page where he can change the password.

Step 9: Enter the new password and re-enter the password and click “Submit” button. Following success message will be displayed on the screen.

The Secured Reset Password can be deactivated anytime by user.

  • Navigate to Profile Settings then click e-Filing Vault- Higher Security and unselect the option “Using Bank account EVC” and click on “Proceed” button.
  • User will be redirected to a confirmation page.
  • Click on Disable button. Following success message will be displayed.
